term 38 - 75 - 63 barometer gaf 29d – 6 tien dus 250 voet boven de zee. de heuvels nog 100 voet hoger.
mooy weer geen wolkje. van nagt sterk gedaawt en kout geweest.
even z:o: lugtje met den avond fris z:w:
twe onser hottentotten zyn gisteren ogtent op de jagt gegaan en nog niet weer gekomen. het is hier slegt van wilt, en sien niets dan sogenaamde korhanen die seer schuw zyn. so dat wy weer een kalf doodt schoten. vertrokken n:n:w op na den middag en arriveerden na drie uren rydens aan de boven kogel fontein alwaar een verlaten veekraal was, reden nog twe uren en spanden in een cloof tussen de heuvels de poort genaamt uit. al het selfde veld, egter iets meer klippigs. de ene hottentot bragt ons tyding dat zy digt by meerhofs casteel een eland geschoten hadden. sonden twe draagossen om het vlees.

Examined the barometers, found two had leaked. Repaired them.
Thermometer: 38-75-63.
Barometer showed 29 inches and 6 tenths, thus 250 ft above sea level. The hills are another 100 ft higher.
Fine weather. Not a single cloud. Heavy dew last night and it was cold.
Light south east wind. A fresh south west wind in the evening.
Two of our Hottentots set out hunting yesterday morning and have not yet come back. There is little game here; one sees only the so-called korhaans and they are very timid so we again shot a calf. Departed north north-west in the afternoon and after a three-hour journey came to Upper-Koegelfontein where there was an abandoned cattle kraal. Rode on for another two hours and outspanned in a kloof called De Poort among the hills. The same countryside here but a bit more stony. One of the Hottentots brought tidings that they had shot an eland close to Meerhof’s Casteel. Sent two pack-oxen for the meat.
