Departed after midday and after nearly three hours travelling, including turns through the Cari hills, north north-west arrived at the Paddegat at which there was brack water, but also a good equally brackish spring behind the first hill. Outspanned in the road. The terrain is reddish-brown Karoo soil with clay; brack soil. Dug two and a half feet deep and found stones of cos-sandstone. Everywhere the same shrub veld. Some ixia lilies and elephant dung.
